It began in 1980 and takes place between the last fortnight of February and the first week of March, with a diverse program designed for all ages. The highlight is the ethnographic/allegorical parade that portrays the way of life of the people, their uses, customs and traditions of other times. The history of the county is worked, portrayed and presented in the parade to thousands of tourists that every year travel to Foz Côa on this date. This celebration, which has 40 years of existence, was born with the Côa Cultural Association, and at that time the party was called Quinzena da Amendoeira em Flor "Foz Côa Capital da Amendoeira". Over the years, the Almond Blossom Festival took on proportions that went beyond the limits of associativism (Côa Cultural Association), thus, its organization and programming passed to the Municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, which led to its affirmation and projection in the city and in the country, becoming known as the Almond Blossom Festival, which is considered the Capital of the Almond Blossom.
